Suddenly character progression involved leveling up and buying into new skills trees and/or abilities. However, just as important to this experience was the player’s quest for ever better equipment. Released in 2018, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey took the franchise’s new direction to ever greater distances, this time taking place in Ancient Greece. On top of some new mechanics and skills, the game added a plethora of weapons for the protagonist, the misthios, to acquire and wield. These weapons, through the engraving system, added some special benefits that helped make you an even deadlier warrior. However like AC Origins, Odyssey gives you dozens of options to eventually choose from. Most of them will serve you well in progressing through the game, and your skills will heavily affect your weapon choice. Fortunately, I have a list of the top weapons that your misthios can use.
25. Athena’s Spear
How To Get: Complete either “The Final Battle” OR “Nemesis” quest. This legendary spear provides a relatively common boost to Warrior damage. Its main draws lie with its other two engravings. One, Athena’s Spear gives a flat 10% boost to the damage you deal, regardless of your build. Two, though a bit more situational, it increases both your health and damage while in Conquest Battles. Making it a prime pick for when you undertake those challenges.
24. Elysian Axe
How To Get: Defeat Polemon The Elysian Axe is a great, albeit slower choice, for characters focused on the Hunter tree. This powerful heavy bladed weapon provides a flat 10% boost to all the damage you deal. Perhaps its more potent feature lies in the 20% damage boost it provides to the Rain of Destruction ability. When used properly, Rain of Destruction can serve as a very effective means of dealing with multiple enemies.
23. Bident of the Underworld
How To Get: Included in the Underworld Mythical Pack DLC. The Bident of the Underworld is a unique spear that focuses heavily on dealing ridiculous amounts of melee damage. Its engraving gives significant boosts to Warrior damage and any damage you deal with spears. What makes it unique is that it has a built-in downside (less Ranged Resistance) that, unfortunately, makes it less than ideal.
22. Prometheus’s Sika
How To Get: Defeat the mercenary with “The Spark” epithet. Prometheus’s Sika is a legendary weapon that features a unique engraving that increases the fire damage you deal and Fire Buildup rate. It’s best used to complement fire damage-focused builds, such as through fire attacks or arrows. Furthermore the sword provides innate damage boosts to Warrior skills and fire-based damage.
21. Gorgoneion Xiphos
How To Get: Defeat “The Hydra” The Gorgoneion Xiphos is a potent one-handed sword that provides bonuses to Assassin damage and adrenaline generation from critical hits. Its unique engraving gives it a 5% chance to stun on each hit. Though that may not sound like much, you’ll often strike quick and often enough to get good use of this stunning ability.
20. Xiphos of Dionysos
How To Get: Defeat Pausanias of Sparta The Xiphos of Dionysos provides another fantastic option for Assassin tree-focused characters. Along with a 25% bonus to Assassin damage, it also adds 50% more damage to your critical hits. This xiphos specifically combos fantastically with Assassin stealth builds since it also buffs Hero Strike damage, making it a lethal opener from stealth.
19. Achilles’s Bow
How To Get: Defeat the mercenary with “The Marksman” epithet. The first ranged weapon to appear on this list, Achilles’s Bow gives a flat 25% damage boost with Hunter skills, and it also provides additional critical hit chance. This legendary bow works best when combed with the Devastating Shot ability due to its engraving that increases the skill’s damage. You can even stack these bonuses with other Hunter skills and the different arrow choices to become a truly potent marksman.
18. Achilles’s Spear
How To Get: Found in a chest in Olynthos Fortress. A thematically matching weapon with Achilles’s Bow, this legendary spear is another prime pick for Hunter builds. This weapon stacks bonuses to both Hunter skills and spears. And its other engraving increases the damage you’ll deal with the Multi-Shot ability.
17. Xiphos of Peleus
How To Get: Found in a chest in the Artemisia Fort. The Xiphos of Peleus is a one-handed weapon that synergizes well with the Assassin tree. While wielding this weapon, you deal an additional 25% more damage with Assassin skills and generate more Adrenaline for each critical hit. The special passive gives you even more damage with the Rush Assassinate skill.
16. Griffin’s Scythe
How To Get: Defeat the mercenary with “The Patricidal” epithet. Here we have another powerful spear option for any style of gameplay. Griffin’s Scythe works best with Hunter skills due to its flat 25% damage boost to Hunter skills along with a 20% boost to the Spread Shot ability. The weapon’s other engraving increases adrenaline generation per hit, making it easier for you to take advantage of its Hunter-based damage boost passives.
15. Pandora’s Kopis
How To Get: Defeat the Nemean Lion during the “Daughters of Artemis” quest. Pandora’s Kopis features a 25% bonus to damage to Hunter skills and a 50% bonus to damage against animals, making it an extremely efficient beast killer. This weapon’s unique engraving doesn’t directly buff your character, though. Instead it combos with the Beast Mastery tree to boost your tamed animals’ damage and health values.
14. Hammer of Jason
How To Get: Found in a legendary chest in Mycenae. A slow and monstrous hammer whose power will make you feel like a real hero. This weapon provides significant bonuses to both Heavy Blunt (+30%) and Warrior (+25%) damage. Plus it’s fantastic for dealing with pesky shield-wielding enemies, so make sure to grab the Shield Break skill for the extra boost.
13. Staff of Hermes Trismegistus
How To Get: Complete “The Gates of Atlantis” quest. Arguably the most powerful spear in the game, the Staff of Hermes Trismegistus makes you work hard to even get your hands on it. The weapon provides a 25% boost to Warrior damage, which is par for the course. However it also features two special abilities: a 40% chance to ignore half the damage you take and the chance to gain a 30% shield when you take a hit. For players with more defensive playstyles, this staff makes for an ideal weapon.
12. Fanged Bow
How To Get: Found in a chest in the Cave of Mt. Zas. This legendary bow is a great option for long-distance kills. The Fanged Bow’s engraving turns its projectiles into poisonous arrows, giving you a surefire way to proc poison without too much skill investment. The weapon also adds a whopping +25% Assassin damage and +40% Poison damage.
11. Polyphemos Cyclops Bludgeon
How To Get: Defeat Brontes during the “Stairway to Olympos” quest. As with other heavy weapons, the Polyphemos Cyclops Bludgeon is slow to swing. However when it does hit, it’ll make mincemeat of whatever’s on the receiving end of its massive blade. In addition to Assassin and Heavy Bladed Weapon damage bonuses, this weapon deals 25% more damage against elites and boss enemies.
10. Harpe of Perseus
How To Get: Complete “Writhing Dead” quest. The Harpe of Perseus is a one-handed sword that appears slightly hooked at the tip. Best used by those focusing on the Hunter tree, the weapon provides a 25% boost to Hunter damage along with a 50% boost to critical damage. It also has a very useful passive that reduces the cooldown of all your abilities by 25%.
9. Hades’s Bow
How To Get: Defeat the mercenary with the “of the Ashen Wake” epithet. Next, Hades’s Bow is my pick for arguably the best ranged option on this list. This weapon turns normal arrows into Fire arrows with its special engraving, similar to the Fanged Bow. It also grants bonus Warrior (+25%) and Fire (+40) damage. Compared to the Fanged Bow, however, Hades’s Bow gives you some more options with burning mercenaries and lighting oil jugs at range.
8. Arachne’s Stingers
How To Get: Defeat the mercenary with “The Weaver” epithet. Your misthios will strike fast and true with this pair of short blades. Arachne’s Stingers deal poisonous attacks as it converts your normal weapon damage to Poison damage. Pretty sweet deal. Additionally, they grant an additional 25% to Assassin damage and 40% to Poison damage.
7. Poseidon’s Trident
How To Get: Found in a chest on the Island of Triton. This legendary weapon supposedly belonged to the god of the sea. Poseidon’s Trident is a powerful spear that provides +25% Warrior and +50% critical hit damage. This weapon also possesses one of the more unique weapon passives since it lets your character breathe underwater, which can be useful for deep dives and exploration. Considering where the game takes place, this ability really bumps up the weapon’s usefulness both in and out of combat.
6. Nikolaos’s Sword
How To Get: Complete “The Wolf of Sparta” quest. Nikolaos’s Sword is both a potent and historically thematic weapon that once belonged to the Spartan general Nikolaos. It provides a flat 25% damage boost to Warrior skills along with an additional 20% damage increase to the Sparta Kick ability. The sword’s last engraving lets you deal more damage against Athenian soldiers, a great reference to the rivalry between Spartans and Athens.
5. Mallet of Everlasting Flame
How To Get: Defeat the mercenary with “The Smoldering” epithet. Though it looks more like a mace, the Mallet of Everlasting Flame is a terrifying legendary weapon that burns whatever it bludgeons. On top of converting your weapon’s damage to Fire, the mallet deals an additional 25% Warrior and 40% Fire damage. If you want to deal damage—and lots of it—and don’t mind the slower attacks, then you can’t go wrong with this weapon.
4. Sword of Damokles
How To Get: Defeat Deimos. Players might take a while to get a hold of the Sword of Damokles, but it’s most certainly worth the effort. On top of bonus damage to Warrior skills, this legendary sword has two adrenaline generation passives. It increases adrenaline you gain from critical hits by 40% and from all sources by 10%. These potent engravings allow you to activate your Adrenaline-based abilities more often, giving a significant boost to your overall combat capabilities.
3. Minotaur’s Labrys
How To Get: Defeat the Minotaur during the “Of Minotaurs and Men” quest. This terrifying legendary axe boasts some serious power despite its slower swings. The Minotaur’s Labrys features a special passive that reduces the adrenaline cost of your Overpower abilities by one segment, meaning you can activate the ability more often. On top of its inherent boosts to both Warrior and critical hit damage, the Minotaur’s Labrys has some real hard-hitting potential when stacked with Overpower.
2. Dagger of Kronus
How To Get: Defeat Nyx the Shadow during the Ashes to Ashes quest. The Dagger of Kronus is a quick-attacking legendary weapon and arguably could be tied for first place on this list. This blade works best for players who prefer a skirmishing, evasive playstyle. On top of bonuses to Warrior and Dagger damage, this weapon’s unique passive ability also increases the damage you deal when attacking from behind by 40%. This benefit makes this weapon especially deadly when combined with stealth. Though it requires you to get dangerously close to your opponents, there’s a worthwhile reward for your efforts.
1. Falx of Olympos
How To Get: Found in a chest in the Palace of Amphitrite. At the top of the list we have a legendary spear known as the Falx of Olympos. This weapon is perfect for those of you who like to live dangerously in this game. Its signature ability increases your damage by 100% in exchange for capping your health at 25% of its maximum value. This legendary spear works well for those who can avoid enemy attacks in combat. However its bonus to Assassin damage and additional Adrenaline generation on critical hits makes it an excellent weapon for stealthy players who go for high-damage sneak attacks. Absolutely the best weapon to chase once you’re far enough into the game to snag it.
